There are many ways to contribute to the Society, including  becoming a member of the Society (see Membership page), volunteering time, making a monetary gift, or donating historical materials, each of which enables us to continue our effort to expand our successful accessions program.

Donate by Volunteering

We are a busy organization that functions entirely through the hard work of a small group of dedicated volunteers.  There are projects to be done.  Some can be done at home, some only in our museum.  Some projects are long term but with no particular deadline for completion.  Other volunteer opportunities have a finite beginning and end so you know just what to plan on.  The following three examples are suggestions to whet your interest in volunteering at the Historical Society, but by no means are the end of the possibilities!

Curator: Bev Wood has left us for her new home in Connecticut leaving a considerable void in our organization.  The primary responsibility for the Curator is to properly tag, wrap and pack items for storage, as we prepare for our move. Two hours per week is needed, and you may do more if you can.  Training is provided.  Knowledge about items is not necessarily needed. This is important and needed immediately.  Please contact us:  253-8428.

Archivist’s Assistant:  Our wish for a Photo Archivist has been answered!  Thank you, Chuck Dudley, for becoming a part of our group.  The Archivist’s Assistant will help to organize and keep a record of where specific items or pictures are located within the museum or files.  This work has begun and needs someone committed to see it to completion.

Program Chairperson:  We've committed to presenting a minimum of 4 programs per year, and any more is just based on our volunteers' time.  We need someone with an interest in a topic to manage the planning of a program (our idea or yours!).  Everyone chips in to help.  This is something that can mostly be done at home and can be as simple or elaborate as you wish to make it.  Chairing a successful program is VERY GRATIFYING!

Donate by Preserving History with Gifts

The Stowe Historical Society provides a permanent home to materials about the town of Stowe,  from many parts of the country, and from people of all walks of life. Family letters and photographs, business records, church registers, and club minutes may seem like mundane remnants of everyday life, but they are the historical treasures of the future. Such documents provide valuable insight into the lives of Stoweites.

What fate awaits the old papers and photographs in your attic, closet, or basement? The potential for damage is great. Temperature and humidity changes and direct light can damage papers and photographs.

We use current standards, practices and materials in preserving our artifacts to the very best of our ability.  Please consider donating your family’s Stowe memorabilia to the Historical Society.

Donate by Writing a Check

And, of course, money is the simplest way to contribute to the society.  All organizations are in need of working cash, ours is no different.  Monetary gifts are very much needed and very much appreciated.  No amount is too small.  Surprise us with sending a gift!  If you first need to know more about us, please contact Barbara Baraw at 802-253-8428.  There are also ways to donate through endowments, living wills, and the like.  These are called “Planned Giving” and can be the lifeblood of any non-profit organization.  Please ask us about this or speak with your estate planner.

In advance, we THANK YOU!
