Phase 2 - West Branch
New Site Preparation
Left: Equipment has arrived to begin work. Weather has been a force to reckon with, however, and we wait for the ground to dry out a bit. 10/13/2009
Above: It is a beautiful day, at last, and work has begun in earnest. Trenches are dug, pipes laid and covered back up. We are on our way!! 10/16/2009
Above: At the end of the day, you can see that much work has been accomplished. 10/20/2009
Above: The size of the hole has doubled since yesterday! The large blocks are to prevent dirt from caving onto workers or into finished areas. We are almost ready for footings. 10/21/2009
The most recent photos are at the bottom. Please scroll down to view the
progression of work.
Above: The footings are in place. Walls will go up and, weather permitting, foundations walls poured next week. 10/27/2009
Above: Digging is done! Pipes are in! Footings and foundation are next. 10/22/2009
Above: The foundation wall forms are in place, waiting for cement to be poured. 10/30/2009
Above: Final preparations are made before the arrival of the cement truck. 11/2/2009
Above: The cement truck is here, pumping cement into the foundation forms. With temperatures at less than 50 degrees, it will be necessary to “blanket” the forms and cover with plastic for protection from the rain. The forms should be off in just three more days!! 11/3/2009
Above: The new cement is protected by blankets (to keep it warm) and plastic (to keep it dry) while it curing. 11/5/2009
Left: The foundation walls have been sealed, insulated (yellow material), and now 4 feet of pink rigid foam is being added for extra protection. John Rogers, of Rogers Movers, is on site to oversee the progress. 11/12/2009
Above: Backfilling the foundation is under way. The task is difficult given the limited available working space. 11/13/2009
Right: Working on the connection to the town sewer line. The
weather has been exceptionally superb! We are very lucky! 11/16/2009
Above L-R: The sewer manhole is nearly complete. The walkway was cut and lifted out of the way, so that the wastewater pipe could be connected to the sewer line. The foundation awaits the cement slab. 11/18/2009
Above L-R: Cement work on the sewer connection manhole is done. Chris Carey, architect, and William Kules, engineer, stop by to check on progress. Another sewer manhole part arrives. No cars were touched!! 11/17/2009
Left and above: The site has been put back together along the front walkway to the Library, the foundation drainage completed and backfilled, and the beams are in place to receive the building after the Thanksgiving holiday. We are truly thankful for all the work that was able to be done in such exceptional November weather. 11/25/2009
