Phase 4 - Moving the Roof and setting it atop the building
Above and below: The roof moved on Friday, Dec. 4th, two days after the main building building moved. It followed the same route along West Hill Road to Route 100, traveling south down Maple Street. As with the main building, turning the corner onto School Street was a tight and difficult (but not impossible) situation. Once through the difficult spot, it was placed on the lawn of the Library and Helen Day Art Center for the weekend. 12/04/2009
Left: The body of the building waits patiently for its top. 12/04/2009
Below: The roof, adorned for the holidays and dusted with snow, was lifted by a crane and moved to the other side of the gazebo in position for the final trip. 12/07/2009
Below: With the crane re-positioned for better leverage and reach, the roof rose again, was spun around and gently lowered onto the building. People stood by watching and heard the word “Perfect!” from the workmen lining up the top with the bottom. 12/07/2009
Below: Over the winter, work will continue inside the building. We have a full slate of people to thank for their participation (and surely more names to add later):
• Excavation by GB Excavating, with Gregg Bartlett at the helm
• Foundation work by Breer Brothers, of Barre, led by Wayne Breer
• Christian Carey, architect
• Justin Rabidoux, Stowe Public Works director
• Russ Coval, clerk of the works
• John Rogers, of Rogers Bros., the building movers
• Bob Neeld of Environmental Engineering
• Ed Pearson of Pearson Associates
• Bill Kules of Little River Survey
• Stowe Police and Stowe Electric staff
• Fairpoint Telecommunications
All have guided the project to date.
Thank you everyone!!!
