The museum will be open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons, from 12:00 – 3:00. We’re located at 90 School Street, in the yellow building adjacent to the Stowe Library and Bloody Brook Schoolhouse? As always, we are also open at other times by appointment.
Are you looking to volunteer in your community, to make a difference for your community? If so, the Historical Society is looking for you! Stop in to see what you can do, whether you can offer a short amount of time, or on a more regular basis, we can find a place for you on our team. In particular, we are looking for guides, 3 hours per shift. Shifts are flexible -- any help is better than no help and we know you have many other commitments. No training is necessary but we'll supply informational guides - and we're sure you'll learn something about Stowe!
NEW EXHIBITS WILL BE HERE SOON!
The museum has been closed for the month of May in order to refresh our exhibits.
June 4th we will reopen (12:00 - 3:00) with three new displays:
VINTAGE AERIAL PHOTOS - These large photos, mostly from 1962, were used as tools
in land use planning. See how the landscape has changed over the years.
E.T. HOUSTON - THROUGH THE LENS OF A LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER, 1907 - 1935
See a display of his landscapes, portraits and more.
TEXTILES FROM THE WARDROBE - A collection of hats from our textile collection
spanning several fashion "eras".
We have several cases and displays of items from our collection given
to the Society since its inception in 1956.
Admission is free.
We have history books about Stowe available for sale
as well as post cards of vintage Stowe views.
